Still waiting for our invitation …

by Cindy on September 12, 2009

… and hoping that Larry Vander Maten’s actions will not impact our adoption or others who are currently in process.  As you can imagine, many in the “Ukrainian Adoption World” are quite concerned and along with us, would love your prayers.  Perhaps there are some folks out there whose adoption are “smooth sailing,” but everyone I’ve ever known who’s BTDT has had a rollercoaster of a ride.

Bill has often said that we have been called to pursue adoption, not make it happen.  While I’ve agreed with this idea in theory, I’ve had trouble relinquishing control.  If I can’t make something happen, then I’ll over-research something to gain as much information as I can in order to give myself some false sense of control.  I’m learning, but obviously still have much to learn, about truly trusting God with the outcome.  Another mom who adopted two kids from Russia many years ago, said to me last Saturday, “God doesn’t call us to be successful.  He calls us to be faithful.”  Two different ways of saying the same thing.

Pray that my heart will get these truths more deeply and that during this time of waiting I’ll be faithful.

Ukrainian adoption will strengthen your reliance on God, not doubt about it. When you walk through the fire, you will not be consumed-but you will sweat the flames. Praying that God gives you the wisdom and strength for each step. Your fellow adoption community is here to support in every way! That is one of the amazing provisions God gives to walk this road! HUGS and prayers today!

Hello Cindy, thank you for your website. I pray for you and ask that you would continue to pray for the Vander Maten’s as they are also working hard to adopt their three girls Tanya, Dasha, and yes – Katya. I think that all of us are concerned over the adoption process and the many issues that will come to light following these incidents. I pray that those invloved in adoption would continue to write their government representative and detail their stories, time lines, and costs that they endured with their adoptions. I believe the Vander Maten’s cause is of titanic proportions, not saving the one or two kids that can float in the waters of the Ukraine Orphange system, but to stop the boat from sinking all together. Please continue with your thoughts and prayers and letters, its very appreciated, thank you!

Thanks, Matthew. We will continue to pray for all involved. I don’t even begin to think that I have an understanding of everything that transpired last week or the events that led up to the incident. I’m sure there is much more to the story than what I could see. Regardless, I maintain my support of FH and the work they do to care for orphans such as our Katya, Galina, and the many others who have been helped by them.

Thank you.
